Preity Zinta Gets A Sporty Costume For a Sporting Show
Preity Zinta Gets A Sporty Costume For a Sporting Show
Actor Preity Zinta is all set to show her hosting prowess in the upcoming Colors show Guinness World Records-Ab India Todega. She is stepping in the shoes of the likes of Akshay ‘Khiladi’ Kumar, Shah Rukh Khan, Priyanka Chopra by choosing the small screen to show her acumen for stunts!
And as the demand, she has been geared differently for the show – with a complete sportsman look. Preity’s overall look is being put together by Surily Goel and will comprise of casuals teamed with waist-coat (much in vogue last season) with boots et all.
In a media interaction the 35 year old actor stated that she’s happy to be on the idiot-box for a larger audience. She says she believes in pushing the limits and that is what India will witness the contestants do too.
The show’s format is not new though. The Guinness World Records has already run in dozens of countries successfully and is presumably going to give high TRPs to the channel when it airs.
But one wonders if Preity will be as exciting as her other actor peers who have made debut. While Akshay or Priyanka are still hot with the people with their movies, Preity’s career has all but ended over last few years. She is no Amitabh Bachchan either we guess!
‘Dhobi Ghat’ makes it official – Aamir Khan is different!
What does it take to be different – instinct, guts, conviction? Actor-director-producer Aamir Khan shows he has it all in abundance with his off-beat production “Dhobi Ghat” – the latest in a 23-year-long career – getting rave reviews.
Directed and written by his wife Kiran Rao, produced by Aamir Khan Productions, the film shows new avenues of scripting and filmmaking and it seems only a thinking actor-filmmaker like Aamir could have done justice to this unique cinematic concept.
“Dhobi Ghat” is surely not for the masses as clarified by Aamir when he said, “I have to inform them that if you are looking for an entertaining film, a lot of dhamaal, action, thrill and fast pace, then this film is not that. I believe the film is made for an audience who are maybe more interested in music, art, painting, poetry, reading or people who want to try something different.”
This is not the first time Aamir has shown confidence in a budding talent – just a few months ago, he had presented another simple and real story by newcomer Anusha Rizvi. Titled “Peepli Live”, it was a satire on farmers’ suicides told in a humorous way. Directed and written by Rizvi, the film had no frills, no glamour and no known name in the cast, but still it swept the nation off its feet.
The film was India’s official entry to the Oscars but is out of the race. Another Aamir film, “Lagaan”, had made it to the top five nomination list in the best foreign film category at the Academy Awards.
Perhaps Aamir had it in him since the beginning.
After starting his acting career with the super successful romantic drama “Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak” and giving hits and flops, Aamir in between tried to do something different with movies like “Raakh”, “Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar”, “Baazi”, “Rangeela”, “Sarfarosh” and “Earth 1947″.
But he came on his own after his resolution of doing only one film a year. His first offering after that was the 2001 period drama “Lagaan – Once Upon A Time”. The film was written and directed by Ashutosh Gowariker, who knocked on many big actors’ doors with the script before approaching Aamir. The actor not only agreed to play lead in the movie but also decided to venture into production with the Oscar-nominated drama about farmers turning cricketers to bat out tax (’lagaan’) from their lives.
It was perhaps the first film that turned movie theatres into stadiums where audiences clapped and cheered as the movie progressed to the climax.
If with the stupendous success of his maiden production venture Aamir broke the jinx that there are no takers for period films, he dispelled another myth that children-centric don’t work, with his directorial debut “Taare Zameen Par”.
Revolving around a child suffering from dyslexia, the film’s success established that if a story is narrated intelligently and interestingly, even an issue-based movie can bring glory.
It’s not that Aamir always makes ‘zara hatke’ film.
The Mumbai-based Hindi film industry, which alone produces more than 200 films every year and primarily focuses on glitz, gloss and glamour, got another surprise from Aamir when he launched his nephew Imran Khan with “Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na” in 2008. A puppy love story that also had Genelia D’Souza was Abbas Tyrewala’s directorial debut. Also written by him, it was seen like a coming-of-age romantic movie and hit the jackpot at the box office.
Aamir says “it’s only on merit” that he produces a film.
In an industry where creativity is usually confused with grandeur, Aamir has tried to give new meaning to filmmaking. He is expected to keep people’s expectations intact with “Delhi Belly”, another venture from Aamir Khan’s stable that once again has first-time director Abhinay Deo helming it.
Last year about 198 Hindi films were made and only five could spell good business. The Rs.587- billion Indian Media and Entertainment (M&E) industry perhaps needs such a creative and daring filmmaker-actor to keep the cash registers ringing and viewers satiated.
‘Yeh Saali Zindagi’ album is dull -Music Review
Film: “Yeh Saali Zindagi”; Music Director: Nishat Khan; Lyricist: Swanand Kirkire; Singers: Sunidhi Chauhan, Kunal Ganjawala, Shilpa Rao, Sukhwinder Singh, Javed Ali and Abhishek Ray;
Nishat Khan is a great Sitar player, but composing music for a Bollywood movie is a different thing altogether and the artiste has failed to impress with the music of “Yeh Saali Zindagi”.
The album offers eight tracks. Barring two, the rest are disappointing.
The first song is the title track crooned by Sunidhi Chauhan, Kunal Ganjawala and Shilpa Rao. It begins with a long prelude and sets the base for the vocals. It constantly changes pace from slow to fast to slow. It’s got a very western feel and is neither bad nor brilliant.
The title track has two more versions – male and female versions. Sung by Abhishek Ray, the male version is quite different from the original in terms of composition as it includes a rap portion. But even after the alterations, the song is a let-down.
The female version is the same as the original; only Kunal’s part has been crooned by Sunidhi and Shilpa.
Next is “Sarara”, a song that doesn’t sound contemporary at all. Javed Ali has sung the number that has a good dose of ‘desi’ beats. It has no high points and nothing worth noticing. In short, it is unimpressive.
It has another version, which has been sung by Sukhwinder Singh.
Then there is “Dil dar-ba-dar”, which was initially supposed to be the title of the film. A duet by Shilpa Rao and Javed, the song about love and loss is a disappointment.
“Ishq tere jalwe” finally brings in some relief. The poignant love song with Javed and Shilpa behind the mike is coupled with strong orchestration and praiseworthy vocals. The rock influence gives it an edge.
Finally, we have “Kaise kahein alvida” by Javed again. This is the best song of the album and is beautifully rendered by the singer. The slow pace and semi-classical touch create a tranquillising effect and makes the romantic number something to look forward to in the album.
On the whole, one would have expected better composition by the composer; lack of freshness and experimentations make it boring.

Shahid refused to do '7 Khoon Maaf': Vishal Bhardwaj
When Priyanka Chopra has seven co-stars in her forthcoming film "7 Khoon Maaf", the question arises why isn't Shahid Kapoor, who shares an amazing onscreen chemistry with her and is reportedly her offscreen love, one of them? Well because he refused, revealed filmmaker Vishal Bhardwaj.

'Colors Swathi'- Chocolate Wrapped In Cotton Sari
Colors Swathi has always been known as the bubbly girl with loads of energy and her big eyes keep popping out most of the time. However, it appears that she is attempting for an image change and wants to look matured. But then, her latest attempt for that has not gone too well with the audience.
Swathi was seen in the new movie ‘Golconda High School’ and donning the role of an English teacher, the cute girl was wrapped in a cotton Sari throughout the film. Many who saw the film felt she was like a chocolate wrapped in a cotton sari. They added that those costumes didn’t suit her.
Few others say that she will never suit in that outfit unless she puts on few extra pounds of flesh. The hardcore Swathi fans say that they prefer her to be like that only but maintain that she must come in more bubbly roles donning Salwar and jeans. Only time will tell what colors this ‘Colors’ girl will show.
AVS Frightened Charmy With Hug
The charming beauty Charmy is called as one of those ripe and juicy fruits that many want to lay their hands upon. This time, it appears that even the age old AVS also could not resist the temptation. Atleast that’s the feeling many got after they looked at a scene which happened recently on WOW show hosted by Sai Kumar.
It is heard that AVS was welcoming few guests at an event and most of them got a shake hand from AVS. However, it is heard that when Charmy arrived, AVS was ready for a hug but the pretty girl walked away.
It is obvious that he just did that to make the media laugh and give them a good time. It seems he was also heard quipping “I heard Charmy is looking for a Telugu boy to marry, am I okay? “. So, all this was done just for good humor and all had a fun time, thanks to AVS.

Awards don't matter much to Kareena
Bollywood actress Kareena Kapoor says she prefers to be on holiday with friends and in Switzerland during the award season in Mumbai as awards don't matter much to her since they are mostly offered to undeserving candidates.
"Awards doesn't matter much to me. Lot of award functions requested me to attend them but I chose to go to Switzerland because that's the only time in the year that I get to spend with my family and loved ones," Kareena told reporters after the launch of her dietician Rujuta Diwekar's book "Women and theWeight Loss Tamasha" at Taj Lands End Hotel in Mumbai on Saturday.
Asked if she believes that the awards are rigged, she said: "I am not sure but it's seems so because who don't attend, their names are never declared in award ceremonies. Those who don't deserve, they get the awards and those who deserve, they land up enjoying pizzas at home."
Kareena has written a chapter in Rujuta's book on her request.
"When Rujuta asked me to write something for her book, first I thought that I am not a professional writer, but then why don't I just write something so that when readers read it, they get to know more about KareenaKapoor. What is her basic, genuine kind of nature comes out across from the chapter because I have written it straight from the heart," she said.
Kareena is set to start shooting for "Bodyguard" on Sunday where she plays the female lead opposite Salman Khan.
"Tomorrow (Sunday) I am going to start shooting ‘Bodyguard'. It's a remake of a South Indian film. I think there the girl's character is very performance oriented so they approached me," said Kareena.
Monroe to return on big screen?
Marilyn Monroe looks set to make a screen comeback from beyond the grave after the rights to her image were taken up by a branding expert.
Jamie Salter plans to use high-tech imaging technology to revive the tragic actress on the big screen after purchasing her "name and likeness" in a multi-million pound deal last week, web media reports.
Salter bought the rights from Anna Strasberg, whose late husband, actor Lee Strasberg, was Monroe's acting teacher and beneficiary of her will. The exact sum he paid has not been disclosed.
Salter, who also manages Bob Marley's image through his firm, is convinced he can make the "Some Like It Hot" star more popular than ever.
"Why does Lindsay Lohan aspire to be Marilyn Monroe? Why does Lady Gaga aspire to be Marilyn Monroe? The reason is that she is an iconic personality, she has great style, she is just simply elegant. She stands for glamour, and sex appeal, and remember this, she proves that size doesn't matter. She is voluptuous, a real woman," said Salter.
"The younger generation will fall in love with her the way we fell in love," he added.
